Tennis lessons in Singapore
At Jun Tennis Academy, our tennis lessons focus on 3 core fundamentals, which consist of footwork, technique and strategy.
Here, we believe that the secret to being a great tennis player or to enjoy playing tennis, stems from learning the actual tennis strokes and footwork similar to professional tennis players. Why are we so intent on teaching the right tennis techniques?
"Visualize yourself on court, playing tennis with random badminton strokes." Learning the wrong tennis techniques causes injuries or bad habits, which puts a hard cap on your level and progress as a tennis player. Bad habits are not easy to fix. It takes almost 3 times as long to fix compared to learning tennis techniques afresh.
Our ultimate goal here is to raise the level of tennis in Singapore as a whole. There are too many people in Singapore who are using the wrong tennis techniques and are not being taught the proper way.
Our tennis lessons are suitable for all levels and ages!

Tennis Coaching Philosophy
At Jun Tennis Academy, we believe that it is important to create an environment during the tennis lesson that is relaxed and conducive to learning and improving. The student needs to be given the opportunity to develop his/her skills in a proper learning environment that constantly challenges the student whilst providing both encouragement and support.
When we deal with motivated and highly committed students, the level of communication between the tennis coach and student is extremely important, giving them the opportunity to provide input to help deliver the tennis program that is specific to their development. If we can set some short-term goals with the student, this will provide them with direction and motivation that will help to keep them on track to achieve their long term tennis goals.
During our tennis lessons in Singapore, we believe in building a strong base of fundamentals in technique and footwork before anything else, without good fundamental techniques, one can never reach a high level of tennis, even holding a 4-5 ball rally would be tough. He/she will be prone to injuries like tennis elbow, wrist pain or limit your serve's growth because of the wrong grip(waiter's tray serve/pancake). To us, the basic tennis skills and footwork are the most important.
All our tennis coaches have trained for several years and have undergone coaching courses with Jun as well as tennis trainings regularly to not only keep up their tennis standard, but to continually improve so as to provide the best for the students. Because our tennis coaches have trained formally, they understand the students physical and emotional states during training or tournaments which makes them the perfect coach for any developing player or beginner.
We are proficient at technique-based training and confident in fixing your strokes. All our coaches go through Jun Tennis Academy's coaching course to understand students better and are proficient in teaching the correct techniques. Our tennis coaches are definitely amongst the best in Singapore.
We will definitely bring you the best tennis lessons in Singapore.

Tennis lesson reviews by our clients
Chow Zheng Yuan
I’d do a review of his tennis lessons and methods so that you can decide if he is the tennis coach for you. I am a 3.8 all rounded tennis player who enjoys tennis singles match play. I had in mind what I needed to improve on but have little clue of what I’m doing wrong, which is why I sought him out as my tennis coach. We started off with an evaluation session to assess my play-ability so it was mainly him observing my ground strokes, serves and volley. We spent the first 3 tennis lessons working on footwork and establishing a stable form when hitting from all corners of the court. By contrast most people place focus on the upper body and swing but neglect their footwork which plays an equally important part in a forehand stroke.
The next few tennis lessons were on developing a more powerful first serve, which he was able to pick out a couple of mistakes such as insufficient forearm pronation and incorrect racket take back. With these corrected I have managed to develop a much quicker but most importantly, a confident first serve. We also ran through a few tennis lessons of singles game strategy, in which we did drills to increase my % of shots in, together with developing better shot selection, and when to go for winners. This has been the greatest help so far in developing consistency to win tennis matches.
Jun is both friendly and patient, and would not mind spending a little extra time on the tennis court to see his students improve. I highly recommend him to intermediate to advanced level players anywhere between 3.0-4.5 who are looking to develop consistency, better match play strategies, and a huge serve (his trademark), he WILL pickup your mistakes and make you a better tennis player! And for those looking to pickup the sport.

Coach Renato is very knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. During our tennis lessons, he focuses on the fundamentals and tailor made drills to get them right. He has an eye for spotting the problem with my strokes/footwork and giving precise pointers. I’m often amazed how just by making small changes to my techniques can lead to a huge difference.
Tennis lessons are well paced, fun and enjoyable. I also liked that there are step by step demonstrations of the skills, which helps learning greatly.
I was new to tennis but thanks to Coach Ren’s dedication, I have learnt and progressed a lot. Friends have commented that I made marked improvements in the short time since I started lessons with him. Thumbs up and highly recommended!

Jun is a very experienced, dedicated, and passionate tennis coach. His tennis lessons are fun and enjoyable. At the same time he also pushes you. My tennis has improved tremendously under his tutelage. You can definitely expect quality tennis lesson from him and he’s also able to answer any question related to tennis if you might have any. For sure he is the best tennis coach if you are really considering of improving your tennis to another level. I have moved to Dubai but if you are looking for tennis lessons in Singapore, look no further.

Coach Renato is a positive and passionate tennis coach whom exhibits focus, knowledge and skills to push you to the next level. He exhibits articulation with proper techniques specifically aligning it with the logic behind in order for you to replicate and remember.
He observes your weakness and points out a tailored solution in order for you to achieve your goals effectively. Coach Renato exhibits great patience during his coaching where he would give positive words of encouragement in motivating you to do better each time. Furthermore, he manages to keep each tennis lesson fun, even with the drills and were never repetitive or boring.
If you are a beginner and is currently looking for a tennis coach, I would highly recommend Renato because he is responsive, reliable and always on time!

After my first tennis lesson with my tennis coach, Sam, I knew that he was the tennis coach that could really help me improve my tennis.
First of all, he could quickly identify my weaknesses and bad habits. He then provided very detailed oriented advice for me to correct and improve my tennis step by step.
Secondly, he focused on the quality of each shot during the practice, and encourages you first to independently reflect what you have been doing well and what you still need to improve on.
Thirdly, he has ample knowledge about the tennis game strategies which enable him to embed them with many drills, which are helpful in a real match situation.
Fourthly, he always encourages me and prepares me not only physically but also mentally to play on court e.g. the importance of recognizing that the tennis game is actually about probability.
The more confidence you obtain from the practice, the more relaxed you would be on the court for the actual games which lead to obvious improvement on the performance. There are definitely more aspects which make me feel more than happy to recommend Coach Sam to anyone who likes tennis and wants to improve.
Terence
I got Coach Christopher (Chris) to help me with my forehand as I had effectively laid off tennis for more than 20 years and was very rusty. I wasn't hitting through the ball on my forehand and was leaning back, resulting in many long and inconsistent shots. Chris identified the problem quickly and helped me to remedy. Within that one session, my forehand was much better. Chris is a really nice chap and his passion for tennis and helping his students to improve comes across very genuinely and strongly. I would strongly recommend Chris if you need coaching for your game. Jun Tennis Academy has also been very responsive (in a prompt and quick manner) and friendly in my request for a trainer to help with my groundstrokes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How to choose a tennis coach in Singapore?
Answer: The tennis coach must know the proper technique, footwork, serve etc.
Your tennis coach should not be hitting in a funny or incorrect way or teach you strange things, for example " serving with the wrong grip, strokes have no follow through or take back, elbow touching the body when hitting ground strokes" etc
Question: Where is the best place to buy tennis shoes in Singapore?
Answer: I recommend buying them online if you can find good prices on shipping. Last resort would be Queensway Shopping Centre or Tennis hub at coronation plaza. You should try to go to all the floors (1st to 3rd floor) and compare the best prices for the shoe you want. You can also try to find a good deal at outlet malls such as IMM and Changi City Point if you are lucky.
Question: Is it okay if I do not have a tennis racket for the tennis lesson?
Answer: Our tennis coaches are able to provide a racket for you, however we would suggest that you get your own tennis racket. You may ask the tennis coach for advice on choosing a tennis racket suitable for you as you will want to get used to your racket during your tennis lesson!
Question: Do I need tennis shoes for the tennis lesson?
Answer: Yes, you do! In fact, I recommend you buy one before you start. Tennis shoes are much more stable compared to other shoes. They are tougher on the sides so you can change direction as you hit easily. If you use running shoes, your feet will start to shift out of position and you will not be able to push off properly. However, if you are only planning to try tennis out for a short while, then wearing your sport shoes is good enough!
Question: Do I need to bring an energy drink for the tennis lesson?
Answer: Maybe. It depends on your personal fitness level as well as how hot it might be on that day.
Question: Are there any forfeits if I cancel my tennis lesson?
Answer: Yes but it depends on your situation, check out the cancellation policies for both package and non-package lessons on our lesson page for more information! You may ask your tennis coach for more details.
Question: Are we a tennis academy in Singapore?
Answer: No, a tennis academy is a place for athletes to train full time. Tennis academies would typically provide accommodation for athletes to stay there as well. We wouldn't call the tennis academies in Singapore full-fledged tennis academies as they do not have accommodations for athletes to stay in and train.
Question: Where can I find tennis players to play with in Singapore?
Answer: You can download an app called Rovo on your mobile device and create or join tennis sessions that other people host. There are players who are at competitive levels there as well.
Question: Can you help my kid get into a tennis school in Singapore?
Answer: Our professional tennis coaches can train your kid till he/she reaches the competitive level to compete with various players of the same age or higher. However, personal discipline and hard work are also important qualities that they must possess while learning tennis.
Question: Where is the best place to buy tennis rackets in Singapore?
Answer: Queensway offers a range of shops that sells different brands of rackets. However, you can also try places like lucky plaza, coronation plaza and other tennis specific shops. Buying from places like Royal Sporting House or World of Sports is a big no-no as the rackets are overpriced there and they only carry some racket brands.
If you have nowhere else to buy a racket from, you can buy from Royal Sporting House or World of Sports if there is a sale going on. We strongly advise that you check with someone who knows about tennis rackets first before you purchase one. We do not want you to waste money buying a cheap or expensive but unusable racket. Decathlon also sells 2-3 good rackets that you can get at a super affordable price, the rest of their stock are not good.
Question: Where can I buy tennis balls in Singapore?
Answer: You can buy them at Queensway and/or tennis specific shops in Singapore. These shops offers a variety of brands of balls to choose from such as Dunlop (AO), Wilson (US Open), Slazenger (Wimbledon), HEAD and many more. We would not recommend that you buy from Royal Sporting House as the tennis balls are sold at a much higher price. You can also purchase tennis balls from decathlon or teloon.
Question: How can I book a tennis court in Singapore?
Answer: If you are looking for public courts, you may book the courts through the ActiveSG app. Off-peak hour rates are $3.50/hr while peak hour rates are $9.50/hr. Off-peak is from 7am to 6pm on weekdays while peak period is from 6pm to 10pm on weekdays and 7am to 10pm on the weekends and public holidays. Sheltered tennis courts are also available at Tampines Hub. As Tampines Hub is not under ActiveSG, you will have to book the tennis court through People's Association (PA).
Question: Can your tennis coaches coach at clubs in Singapore?
Answer: It depends on whether your Club allows external coaches to coach tennis there. You may try to apply for special permission but will most likely be denied. Most Clubs in Singapore do not allow external tennis coaches as they have their own set of resident club coaches available. Some Clubs do not allow basket of tennis balls to be brought in as well.
Do take note: SAFRA country club as well as Civil Service Club do not allow coaching. Students need to ask for permission to bring their own coaches in for coaching beforehand and court booking rates are more expensive than usual. However there are many people who break the rules, and if you coach there during peak timings, there will be green eyed tennis players or tennis coaches that will complain about you.
Question: What are the types of tennis courts in Singapore?
Answer: There are 4 main different surfaces for a tennis court that consist of clay, carpet, grass and hard courts. They all impact the player on how the game is played. Players will often have a court they prefer and play well on. In Singapore, other than just the many hard courts you see everywhere, there are actually clay and grass courts around, as well as other artificial surfaces.
Question: Can we take group tennis lessons together if we are of different levels?
Answer: Yes you can, however, note that the higher level tennis player will improve at a slower pace until the beginner has caught up to a level that is sufficient to do similar tennis drills together.
Question: Where can I get my racket strung in Singapore?
Answer: You can string with our official stringers (Ping Ting - Changi / East side) or you can also get it strung at Queensway Shopping Centre or coronation plaza or lucky plaza etc.
Question: What are the best tennis trainer balls to get?
Answer: We believe that the 2 best trainer balls you can use are Wilson Trainers and Dunlop Coaching balls. The rest are honestly not as good.
Question: Is tennis training expensive?
Answer: Tennis is a very hard sport to properly master and you definitely will have to spend a significant amount of not only money but time. There are many factors to help you reduce the costs. Choosing a coach wisely will help you save a lot of money as you would not need to relearn proper tennis techniques if you start with a good tennis coach. Having good ball sense, being a fast learner, and putting in time to practice outside of lessons will help you as well. This are just a few factors that can help you save money.
Question: How often should i take tennis lessons in Singapore?
Answer: It depends on if one is trying to learn to play casually or competitively or in between. Once a week is good enough if you are just aiming to be a good casual player, however you have to supplement the tennis lessons with your own practice outside of tennis lessons.
Question: How much is tennis lessons in Singapore?
Answer: It costs anywhere from $80 to $150 per hour for private lessons.
Question: How can i learn tennis in Singapore?
Answer: Drop us a whatsapp using our widget!
Answer: The tennis coach must know the proper technique, footwork, serve etc.
